YOBs Picnic

The YOBs picnic was this year held at Castle Cove Beach instead of Redcliff as in previous years. We thought with the high winds we have had lately it would be safer to drive to the beach and with the winds hitting 30 knots plus in the afternoon we made the right choice for once.

The sun shone! helpers, parents and the youngsters pulled together to make a real fun event.
A big thank you has to go to Ron Groves who borrowed a trailer full of kayaks and canoes, plus he collected a couple Optibats from the club to give a good selection of beach toys. Tom, Emma, Alexandra and Jay came with their wind surfers,
Shaun Perrett also brought his kayaks so everyone was kept busy.
I did my best to teach Tom Wells all I knew about wind surfing, I don't know what the RYA have been teaching him in the GBR Zone Squad but I think I helped him with his technique.
Phil Norris found his ideal dinghy isn't a Wayfarer but an Optibat after showing the kids how one should be sailed. The Grove boys proved two over 6 footers can fit into the Optibat, sail it and not sink.
Great afternoon that proves a little team work goes a long way.
Phil
