Caroline Nairns's now famous Squib walks, which encompasses the whole club, climbed to greater heights with a record turn out of over 30 club members and not a dog in sight.
The Crown Inn pub at Puncknowle (or Punnle as locally known) is the village post office and village store and was the designated meeting place for the intrepid explorers who, once corralled under the leadership of Caroline headed west toward to sea.
Caroline is famous for organising terrific weather as well as the walks and she did not fail us, with a warm sun and blue skies, who would have thought this was January.
After a slippery ascent down to Chesil beach and an odd poke at some of the MOD's rusting equipment used for the offshore range that now litter the beach, we headed inland and back.................................up hill.
The fit young things at the front discussed diverse subjects as Islamic Fundamentalism and Father Christmas whilst those at the back were checking their wills.
Trudging through farm yards and alongside silage lagoons, it was such a beautiful morning your Hardy bunch agreed to take an extra loop into the walk therefore extending the pleasure of the West Dorset countryside before finally arriving back at the pub right on opening time.
That was not before some of the shorter legged ladies struggled with the rather high stiles that were along the way and ended the day rather, shall we say................saddle sore.
Swilling back some of Palmers finest the party then made for the dining room where hot soup or roast dinners awaited, although some elected to stay in the snug, not wanting to eat on an empty stomach.
The next Squib walk is on the 15th February, but don't be put off by the title, everyone is welcome and just to clarify, all the walks are on public rights of way and recognised walking routes, however agricultural they may turn out to be.
