WSC’s winter series drew to a close on Sunday with some chilly racing for the national Squibs and IRC 3 and 4 handicap fleets.

The annual Christmas party was reinvented last evening with a change from the normal multiple course meal, bow ties and bunting to a simple turkey dinner, with a table that was decorated without a cracker in sight.

The Strictly Final is nearly with us, so get your party frocks, glitter and all things sparkly ready and come along to the club to watch.

This year we will be serving a Mezze platter of cold meats, baked camembert, crudities, bread,and dips and pickles which will be available at £6 per head - please book via this link.

Thanks to all who attended the fundraiser on Sunday evening to watch the fireworks, enjoy the bangers and mash - and raise money for Cancer Research and Chesil Sailability.

Like a tired swallow alighting on a telephone wire during migration, ‘Shalom’, a battered-looking Hurley 22, came to rest yesterday on the pontoon in front of ‘Aliya’. The owner, Kristof, is making his way back to Hamburg, seeking help from fellow sailors as he goes, as he is now short of funds – no great surprise, having just done a 10,000 mile Atlantic circuit, celebrating his 19th birthday on the way!

A four-strong Weymouth crew left under the 8am bridge and eastwards towards Cowes for the 18.40 race start last Friday. Mike Street, Andy Heyting and Steve Fraser had joined me on Arcsine; we had hoped for a fast trip to Cowes but the Firing Range decided to send us offshore and the wind became dead astern 20+ knots, meaning some gybing and extra miles. We picked up a buoy off Cowes Front at about 15.00 and had a short rest before having our pre-race dinner - many thanks to Mike for the lovely meat balls! Just in time our final crew, Simon Hunt was dropped off having managed to get a lift from Gosport on Dogmatix.

NICK SHARP passed away to the start line in the sky early in the morning of Wednesday 4th October having raced against cancer for some 18 months.
Nick had been a member of WSC for many years owning and racing many boats including Pink Stink, Wild Child, Salamandar and, probably the most memorable, Sharp Exit. Nick loved all yacht racing whether round the cans or offshore and sailed with many including Kenny Roebuck, Iain Jones, Andy Campbell-Watson, Rick Mead, Neil Prince, Nick Massey, Steve Fraser and many more.
