Halfway there! Transquadra Log for 'Raging Bee' and 'McDo de Cherbourg'
Monday: Having been third at the runway mark just after the start yesterday, 'Raging Bee' (15) stayed a bit south of the pack and ahead of it, while 'McDo' 6) remained closer to the rhumb line. Jean-Pierre Kelbert's '3D Developpeurs' developed an early lead and is going fast.
Tuesday: Space is opening up between the boats: a big move to the right by 'Raging Bee' (6) put her to the north of '3D' with 'McDo' (7) opting to move a bit further south. It looks as if there will be a stronger airflow to the south in the next few days.
Dealing With Burns
In a new venture for the club, Scottish poet Robbie Burns was celebrated with a dinner in his honour, the dining table was decorated with tartan and all the guests received a corsage.
Transquadra 2014-15 Part 2: Madeira to Martinique
The Cherbourg team are making their way to Madeira this week to prepare for the start of the second stage of the Transquadra Transatlantic race. I spoke to Titi (Thierry Lacour) who is already down there in the sunshine; Loulou is due to follow later in the week. Bruno James and his crew Hugues will also be arriving to complete the team of two boats, 'Raging Bee' and 'McDo de Cherbourg'.
Local organisations teaching sailing
The choice of Weymouth and Portland for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic sailing was hardly a surprise to those of us who sail here and belong to local members’ clubs that have thrived for more than 100 years. Recently our communities have supported initiatives to widen participation in water sports, however a friend raised a question that suggested the relationships between the organisations need clarification. What follows hopes to explain some of these organisations’ aims and how they work together.
2015 - First Squib walk
Caroline Nairns's now famous Squib walks, which encompasses the whole club, climbed to greater heights with a record turn out of over 30 club members and not a dog in sight.
The Crown Inn pub at Puncknowle (or Punnle as locally known) is the village post office and village store and was the designated meeting place for the intrepid explorers who, once corralled under the leadership of Caroline headed west toward to sea.

Penny Ross Mackenzie, the club's new Steward.
Penny was appointed recently and took up position on the 5th January as the club steward.
YOB's Prize Giving
Yobs prize giving took place on the 2nd January, as usual it took place in the club with cups being presented by Kathy Claydon and Megan Pascoe.
Subsidised 2015 IRC Certificates
All cruiser races in 2015 will be dual-scored under both the RYA’s National Handicap for Cruisers (NHC) and the RORC’s IRC rating system.
So we're delighted to be able to offer cruiser class members a 75% discount on the cost of their IRC certificates in 2015. This is a negotiated extension of the RORC's StartUp scheme and is available for renewals as well as new applications.
Tacking Workshop,Longshed Training room Saturday 10th January 7pm
This training event is aimed at dinghy and squib sailors who wish to improve their tacking while racing. (Competence -RYA level 3 and above) Delegates will be expected to participate in land drills using the club Wayfarer.

WSC Annual Dinner Friday 30th January - “A Celebration of the Season's Sailing”
The club will be holding its annual black-tie Dinner Dance, which is open to all members (aged 16 and over) and their guests, at the Crown Hotel on Friday 30th January.This is a new venue for the club and the Crown is delighted to have the opportunity of hosting this prestigious event.
There is a five-course meal for the bargain price of £25 per head (see link for booking form and menu options). Wine starts at £11.50 a bottle and there is Doom Bar for the real-ale lovers.There will be a prizegiving after the meal, followed by dancing to music from popular local band “The Legomen”.
