Weymouth Keelboat Championships in association with Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust
We are just over four weeks away from the biggest regatta that Yacht Clubs have Weymouth have put on for a few years, we have some great sponsors, great prizes and trophies and some varied racing to tempt (hopefully) all sorts.
Thornlow school have kindly sponsored trophies and prizes for youth sailors involved with the event.
These will include for crewing and for helping with race management both on and off the water.
Osprey Nationals - Day 2
Adrian our self confessed wind god of a Race Officer had kindly arranged for Champagne conditions on day 2. Not a cloud in the sky and with a wind of F3-4 it promised to be a good day.
Osprey Nationals - Day 1
The Osprey travelling circus arrived at Weymouth Sailing Club for their 60th Anniversary National Championships and were greeted with 15-20 knots of breeze and glorious sunshine from the south east providing champagne sailing conditions for the the 39 teams entered.
Beware!
Through my own stupidity and forgetfulness I left my inflatable at the top of the ramp in Hookers Dock and went away for the weekend (6 and 7 July). Needless to say when I returned it had been stolen. I spied a group of lads with it down at the end of the Stone Pier on Sunday afternoon and forsaking the Andy Murray experience, recovered it. The lads promised (!) me that they hadn't stolen it but a "man living in a tent on the Nothe said they could use it". Anyway, I have my inflatable back but I thought you might like to know that inflatables in Hookers Dock are vulnerable.

James Chalmers of WSC is IRC Division 3 National Champion
The Royal Ocean Racing Club has announced that James Chalmers of Weymouth Sailing Club on board J/35, Bengal Magic, scored the lowest net points of any yacht at the IRC National Championships and was crowned IRC National Champion for IRC Division Three. Congratulations James.
Bengal Magic take IRC 3 at RORC National Championships
Stupendous result for James Chalmers and crew. Winning a very difficult class ahead of some top notch competition.

Mille Mercis A Tous!
As the fog cleared off Cherbourg I had the feeling that I would see whoever was in front of the fleet coming up and sure enough there was Saskia VII with a commanding lead. It had been an act of faith to cross the Channel in those conditions, but there was Cherbourg under the sun, waiting for us to arrive - and arrive we did!
I am sure members will wish to join me in thanking all those people in Cherbourg who contributed their time, energy and thoughtfulness to making our visit such a successful one. ‘Entente cordiale’ is indeed the appropriate way to describe the positive feeling of YCC towards their English neighbours, and we are deeply indebted to the members of a club who take their hospitality as seriously as their sailing!
What a weekend ! - WSC goes to YCC
Twenty five boats left Weymouth bay on Friday 21st June 0545 in torrential rain, heading to Cherbourg to visit our friends at the Yacht Club de Cherbourg (YCC). Race Officers Catherine and Peter Jacobs aided by Allan Castle got up extremely early to get Viking II into the bay and set a windward mark to turn round before chasing off to France. With poor visibility through the shipping lanes but a fair wind, asymmetric spinnakers were the thing for the first four and a half hours.
Go Kathy! - Commodore arriving in La Trinite
Our Commodore is on her way into La Trinite placing 2nd in class 4 and 3rd in IRC overall. Kathy Claydon is currently sailing Arcsine double handed in the JOG BNY Mellon Challenge to Cascais in Portugal. The first stop is La Trinite in Brittany and I guess they'll be wanting some sleep and a break from life at 45 degrees!

Inspiring for us going to Cherbourg this weekend. Update....here's a photo of Felipe and Kathy collecting their trophy at the JOG prizegiving in La Trinite. They leave wednesday for Cascais.
“Un week-end cool pour tout le monde!”
That’s the official definition, from Anne Mataguez, secretary of YCC, who is rallying the team over there to lay on a great welcome for us next weekend. So far the forecast looks favourable, as we move into a week which will pass too quickly in trying to find time for all those things that need doing to get ready. My photo shows agreement from Napoleon's statue, which must be a good sign!
