Golden Opportunity- Olympic Test Event

P1P2

Four members of the youth section of Weymouth Sailing Club were given the golden opportunity to be medal and flower bearers at the medal ceremonies for the recent Olympic test event.

Tom Wells was able to participate in the ceremony for the windsurfing medals and was thrilled to be able to be near Nick Dempsey who he said was “his inspiration and hero” in pursuing windsurfing.

Emma and Alexandra Stevenson and James Limb pictured below were the medal and flower bearers for the Laser and 470’s men’s and women’s. Emma said that it was “fantastic to have the opportunity to be so close to the medallists, the Laser and 470 girls are my inspiration and I aspire to be as brilliant as they are".

James Limb said “it was the best day of my whole life and I will never forget it”.

Alexandra found it “slightly scary” to begin with, worrying about "getting it right”.

They certainly did get it right and were much praised by the organisers and were given their own round of applause.
