Mark Lee comes 4th in the 2011 Dutch Open Solo Championships

Congratulations to club member, Mark Lee who has come 4th in the 2011 Dutch Open Solo Championships against stiff opposition. This year’s event was held on the Ijsselmeer making use of the splendid facilities at Medemblik over the weekend of 2-4th September, the weather was fantastic for non-sailors beautiful sunshine with light winds F1-2 over the first 2 days but it did improve for the sailors with the final day bringing a F3.

The fleet of 40 boats comprised unusually of only 4 Brits making the trip, though after a series of 9 races 3 Brits finished in the top 4.  Andy Davies a week after winning the Merlin Rocket nationals was the favourite for the title but he was pushed hard by Richard Adams and the outcome was only decided after the final race with the rest of the fleet unable to match their upwind speed. The Dutch association as always organised good social events making it a very enjoyable weekend for the competitors and families

1st Andy Davies      5198
