The final stages of the Star class world event in Miami saw French WSC temporary members Xavier Rohart and Pierre-Alexis Ponsot (back row left in photo) justify their recent selection for the Olympic team by winning the silver medal, after a double-bullet comeback on the last day and a second in the medal race - which was won by WSC NZ temporary member Hamish Pepper (centre right of back row in shades)! "There were so many winners we all went faster", Xavier said about a very closely fought championship, though he told me they're keeping something in reserve for Weymouth, when we look forward to their company in the club again.
In the 2.4 event, full WSC member Megan Pascoe narrowly missed podium honours in a ding-dong battle for fourth place with her team-mate Helena Lucas, which is going to make selection a difficult process (though we'll vote Megan every time!). The event was won by another temporary member from the French team, Damien Seguin, who looks set to remain a problem after a strong lead on points.
What a terrific start to the Olympic year - our involvement with our Olympic sailors can only get more exciting from here on in!
