Many members may not have realised that Oxford and Cambridge Universities held inter varsity sailing races at WSC in Falcons during the 1920’s.

Falcons can be seen rigging up in the harbour and racing around our traditional fixed starting line off the Stone pier.

Sail trim illustrates that the kicking strap had yet to be invented.

The Pathe news site also has some other fascinating footage of sailing in Weymouth including racing between the 12 m America’s cup yachts Sovereign & Sceptre in the 1960’s. I remember as a small boy my father taking me down to view these yachts at the time.
