Rick Bruton's "Effusion" showed the others the way to go in saturday's J P Morgan Round the Island Race. A regular competitor in this yearly circumnavigation of the Isle of Wight, Ricky and crew smashed it with a class win in ISC 6C, third in group and 37th overall. An absolutely fantastic performance.
A great 14th in class in ISC 7B was achieved by Steve and Josie Dadd's "Rumrunner" whilst our Commodore Kathy Claydon scored 18th in IRC class 2A. Wildfire successfully completed the race after last year's disappointment, finishing 18th in IRC class 2B. One of the smallest boats Echo finished 11th in ISC 8C. Club members sailing on Draig O'r Mor also had 14th in IRC 2D.
Whilst these boats were racing up east, not to be outdone the Centenary Trophy fleet were sent south in a closely contested tussle which included West and East Shambles buoys. Mark and Rima Bugler's J97 "Saskia VII" making best of the tidal gambles and triumphing on corrected time in a race which was 5 hours elapsed time for the fast boats but perhaps a little bit long for the slower boats.
2013 racing has cranked up in the current beautiful weather and enthusiasm is growing for the solstice "transmanche"..
