Weymouth Sailing Club awarded Heritage Lottery Fund grant

Weymouth Sailing Club has received a £4,000 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund to support its Centenary Exhibition project.
The exhibition will be a celebration of the past one hundred years of the club, from its original founding in Weymouth in 1913 as the Franklin Sailing Club.

The club’s story will be told using display boards, a large digital screen and many historic items, including an original wooden Falcon dinghy. The project will also involve digitising old photos to create an electronic archive of the club’s history.
Exhibition organiser She Taylor said: “We’re thrilled that the Heritage Lottery Fund has given us this grant. The club has been a vibrant part of Weymouth life for one hundred years and the centenary is great point to celebrate our history. We hope the exhibition will engage the local community and bring our story to life.”

Nerys Watts, Head of the Heritage Lottery Fund South West, said: “We at the Heritage Lottery Fund are delighted to be supporting Weymouth Sailing Club with this exciting exhibition. People will now be able to explore and better appreciate the Club’s 100-year history and the important role it has played in the local community over the last century.”

The Centenary Exhibition will run daily from Saturday 31st August until Saturday 7th September in the club’s Longshed, next to the Lifeboat Station.
