YCW Rear Admiral's Cup

 saskia

John Croydon has very kindly presented a trophy, the Rear Admiral’s Cup, to be competed between teams of three boats from each of the local clubs.  The first two races were back-to-back  in the Bay on Sunday 20th April, which were also part of the YCW Spring Series.  The third race was a longer one in the bay on 11th May and the final one will be the Royal Dorset Cherbourg Race over the late-May bank holiday.  The plan is for John to present the trophy to the winning team in Cherbourg.

Beautiful sunshine and warm wind welcomed the nine competing boats for Race 3 on Sunday 11th May.  RO Adrian Patterson and assistant/driver/sponsor John Croydon set a short long distance race as the initial brisk breeze was forecast to drop, which it did.  The course included mark G (deguassing range) at which point the race effectively started again as the wind dropped and the slower boats caught up.

After around 4 hours the competitors finished at Destroyer buoy reaching under spinnaker.  Well done to Draig O'r Mor (CCSC) who won on handicap - with double points and no discards this was a timely win for CCSC.

RDYC lead on 53 points, WSC have 57 points and CCSC have 70 points.  For double point races the team scores vary between 12 and 48 points so it's all down to the final cross Channel race to Cherbourg on Sunday 23rd May.
