Cherbourg Yacht Club Leads the Figaro Solitaire!

Alexis makes good use of a waveAlexis Loison

Alexis Loison from YCC, the other half of the father and son team who won the Fastnet last year, has won the first stage of the Figaro Solitaire in Plymouth, narrowly beating Fabien Delahaye from Ouistreham and Jeremie Beyou, twice overall winner. Although Fabien was leading at Roscoff, Alexis took an easterly option on the last leg which gave him a better angle to the finish, and also gained him the Brittany Ferries' trophy for the fastest time from Roscoff.

Yann Elies, Figaro winner in 2012 and 2013, was leading at Wolf Rock only to suffer dismasting, which put him out of the running, though he will be starting on the second stage on Saturday. All the action and news can be found on www.lasolitaire.com.

Members will recall Alexis' father Pascal at WSC for the YCC Transmanche, and we hope to catch up with him next week, though Alexis will not complete the Figaro till July 5th, also at Cherbourg. He has our best wishes for some more terrific results!

Our own crossing gets nearer and nearer, and there is a list up on the class noticeboard for people to enter boats and give an idea of crew numbers. A full briefing sheet will be available on Thursday night in the clubroom prior to departure. We already have quite a number of boats going, so come on and add your names to the list for another unforgettable weekend with YCC!
