Merlin Rocket Nationals 2015 at Whitstable (Aug 23-28)

Saturday arrivals saw the hottest day of the year - but there was a long wait till the end of the week for the sun to reappear. It was a very wet and windy week in Whitstable - even the oysters were fed up with the rain.

However 4 teams of Weymouth sailors battled through the elements to join 71 boats for hot competition. Sam and Megan Pascoe finished a terrific 5th overall only just letting go of third spot on the final day. Mike and Penny Fenwick finished 37th midfleet. Phil and Ali Ashworth came in 51st delighted with 3rd place in the Bronze fleet. Mark and Rima Bugler unfortunately had one of those weeks which saw a few too many breakages and set backs.

The race format of these National championships are generally a single long 2 hour race each day and with Wednesday having the only 2 race day schedule becoming unsailable with 40 knot gusts, we were "treated" to back to back races on Thursday and Friday. There were probably a few ways to describe the feeling sailing the final beat in the final race - a polite one was "Tired!"
