Congratulations to Megan Pascoe and Adrian Patterson who have received Maritime Hero awards from the Old Pulteney Whisky Company. These prestigious prizes are awarded to people who have shown outstanding passion and commitment to sailing.
The award to Megan was for sailing achievement at an international level and that to Adrian was for service to Weymouth Sailing Club over a number of years. Both won their categories at a regional level and now go forward to compete for the overall national award. Megan, with her “never give up” attitude has become a champion in the 2.4 keelboat and is a member of the British Paralympic squad. In spite of her commitments to international sailing at that level, she still finds time to sail regularly in the club in her Squib and is frequently seen as a guest helm on other club boats.
Adrian has also achieved much personal success on the race course. However he suffers from a bone-wasting disease that has forced him to give up active racing, so has switched his energy into race management, becoming a nationally approved race officer and volunteering to run many races for the club each year. He is also the club’s principal mentor for other aspiring race officers.
Megan and Adrian have both received a bottle of Old Pulteney Whisky and now go into the competition for national winner in their respective categories and a donation of £1000 to the club.
