Some of you may have noticed a smart new Squib without a cover on the moorings outside the club. It didn't need a cover because it has a new internal arrangement and self-draining cockpit, see left, which saved a lot of pumping over the last couple of weeks. The Squib was at the club for assessment prior to approval of the new design by the class association and the RYA.
On Sunday six Squibs took part in a mini-series to assess the racing performance of the boat. The class and the RYA need to be satisfied that it's not significantly faster or slower than existing boats. Eight crews rotated through the six boats so that only in the 1st race were crews in their own boats, and all had a go in the new boat, or would have except a 40kt squall stopped proceedings after the 5th race. The results were analysed by boat and by crew, and true to form, Mike and Penny Fenwick were top. The Rondar Squib finished in the middle.
I just want to blow the WSC trumpet a moment. I think it was a brilliant effort by the club to lay on an event and provide most of the boats (there was one visitor in addition the the Rondar Squib) in the middle of January, two weeks after the end of the season - WELL DONE WSC!!
