H.M. QUEEN ELIZABETH II - 90th Birthday Parade of Boats

On Saturday 23rd April the R.D.Y.C. is organising a Parade of Boats in Weymouth Harbour to celebrate our Monarch’s 90th Birthday.

All boat owners are invited to join the celebrations and join the fun.

The Mayor of Weymouth & Portland will be Guest of Honour taking the salute from outside the R.D.Y.C.

PROGRAM OF EVENT

1000 Normal bridge lift
1020 RNLI demonstration off Weymouth pier-head.
1040 (tbc) Lifeboats joined by Coastguard helicopter for further demonstration.
1045 All participating boats in ‘assembly area’ between Old Pier and Bowleaze.
1055 Lifeboats will then lead the parade of boats (hopefully dressed overall) along the line of
the white speed limit buoys towards the harbour entrance.
1100 Following Gunfire from Nothe Fort. Parade enters through the harbour entrance.
All boats keeping to the starboard side, will pass up the harbour, salute guests &
dignitaries at R.D.Y.C., then round a buoy laid off East Street & returning to sea again
keeping to the starboard side.
1200 Normal Bridge Lift

ALL participants invited to celebrate in the R.D.Y.C..

Participation of R.N.L.I Lifeboats and S.A.R. Helicopter subject to operational requirements.

Safety Items

Event VHF Channel – Ch. 12 Please monitor this channel throughout the event.

NO SAILING – for Safety Reasons with the exception of Rowing Club Gig’s the event will be under power throughout – engineless boats (dinghies) may be towed – no more than two per tug.

No overtaking except in emergency; please follow in line astern at a safe distance to the boat ahead.

For your own Safety please obey any reasonable instructions passed from Officials and pay particular attention when crossing the harbour ferry track.

Request from the Harbourmaster please DO NOT ignite any flares during the Parade.

Whilst participants are encouraged to make their boats look festive or ‘dress overall’ it is not a requirement of entry. The main aim is to get as many boats as possible out on the water to properly celebrate this momentous achievement.
