Sunday 19th of March was the final walk in the annual Winter Walks with Caroline Nairn. All of the walks start from a car park, which is conveniently attached to a pub and surprisinngly end with a thirst quenching sup and meal.
In January we trotted around Langton Matravers on the Isle of Purbeck, whilst in February we assailed the hills around Plush. Meanwhile in March we circumnavigated Colmers Hill near Bridport before making a final assault on its western flank and topped the iconic local landmark with aching limbs, but boy, were we rewarded with a great view.
Atop the landmark are a small number of fir trees plus an ordnance survey Trig Point. Over 6500 of these concrete pillars were constructed to mark a fixed triangulation point for mapping the whole of the UK. They were constructed in the mid 1930's and cover the whole of the country, although modern mapping methods have now made them obsolete.
So with the sailing season starting next month, its put the walking boots away and get the sailing boots out.
Thanks go to Caroline, for organising all of these walks.
