'Thank you' lunch
Weymouth Sailing club said a big 'Thank You' to its hard working volunteer members who have given their time freely in order that the club could carry out a mammoth amount of civil engineering work over past six months. A lunch was thrown at the club in their honour to acknowledge their efforts. Vice Commodore Mark Bugler addressed the lunch and said that he was proud of their efforts and that their achievements were astonishing.
Projects completed have been the dismantling of a World War II blast shelter to enlarge the boat storage area, regrading of the bank behind the club and erecting a sleeper wall to hold back the earth. The complete project management of the club's new 8-tonne crane from design to construction and implementation and finally the replacement of over thirty moorings.
Mark congratulated the members concerned and said that the club owed them a great deal as their combined skills had saved the club many thousands of pounds which in turn meant that membership fees would only rise by 2% in line with inflation much less than if the club had employed contractors.
