Prizegiving Dinner Dance
The 90th Weymouth Sailing Club Annual Prizegiving took place last weekend at the Riviera Hotel attended by 150 members plus guests. Guest of honour, was Weymouth and Portland Mayor Anne Kenwood with Commodores and partners from Castle Cove SC, Royal Dorset YC and the Royal Naval Sailing Association making up the top table.
After enjoying a four course meal, club Commodore Mark Bugler thanked Melita Biggs for her work as Commodore and praised the work of volunteer members both in their labours and technical ability for delivering and enhancing facilities at the club.
Mark went on to thank Sue Ives and Josie Dadd for planning and organising the function, Catherine Jacobs and Sue Stow for their hard work in co ordinating the tropies and a special thank you to Adrian Patterson for his work behind the scenes in race admin.
Mark then presented the Vincent Shield which is the Commodore's award for outstanding contribution for the year. This was won by Peter Hopford for heading up the team that delivered the Squib Nationals which, as we all know, was an outstanding success.
Following the main prizegiving event, revellers danced the night away with the help of a disco and live band, the last party goers reportedly finding the comfort of their beds a little before 5am.
Another first for this year, the photographic display was enhanced with video footage from the previous season thanks to the hard work of Steve Ives who burnt the midnight oil editing hours of footage into a 17 minute rolling show.
Next year's prize giving has already been booked for the same venue on the 15th January 2011, tickets will be available shortly.
