The Solo Offshore Racing Club made a visit to WSC on Saturday night 12 May. They are a group of sailors based in the Solent who race their boats single-handed in a series of off-shore races. The first leg from the Solent on Friday night was in very light winds making it a tortuous trip and several boats turned back. Those who carried on arrived in Weymouth, mostly under motor, during Saturday afternoon.
The fleet had a supper and prizegiving in the club and headed off to their bunks for a welcome few hours sleep. In lovely sunshine on Sunday morning the fleet joined the WSC cruiser fleet in the bay. The club race team assisted with their start from Viking III. With some luck a welcome breeze filled in from the south west and 18 boats crossed the start line for the return leg to the Solent.
It was a magnificent sight of fast boats with committed sailors, and in no time at all they were out of sight. The wind, we have heard was good and they made a fast passage. But you might like to see what happened to one unfortunate sailor. https://www.facebook.com/sorcsolo/
Our own fleet fared better with a good race and no incidents, to complete the Spring Series. Winner of the Class 3 was J90 with Richard Woof and Class 4 Effusion with Mark Talbot.
