Olympic friends
With Sailing for Gold well underway and our guests out competing on the water it's nice to reflect on the memories we have captured in these past few weeks.
The French team turned up first with their Star quickly followed by the Kiwi's and their Aussie coach Andrew who did not understand the delights of 'warm beer'.
More French followed in their own particular disciplines with their coaches whilst the meterologists trawled up and down the bay gathering weather data.
Toward the end of July the French decamped and the Kiwi's turned out in force and straight away took the club to their hearts and treated it like their sitting rooms back home.
Noted by members of the coffee club was the rather distasteful habit of the French lads changing out in the yard, however, attitudes changed when the Kiwi girls did likewise!
Some of the highlights were the YOB's being taken out onto the water in the 49 ers, 470 and 420's, Kathy Claydon enjoyed a session out on the Elliott whilst helpers were treated to a barbie at the club with New Zealand lamb and beef on the menu, washed down with lager and wine. The chief executive for yachting New Zealand Des Brennan, made a whistle stop visit to the club to see for himself the facilities we are offering and exchange burgee's with club commodore Mark Bugler.
Next year will see the return of both sets of teams to Weymouth Sailing club, something we are looking forward to already.
