Lark Training

The weather gods were kind to us today with wall to wall sunshine and a gentle southwest breeze. Some of the youngsters were doing the Ten Tors and we were a bit down on numbers so two more mature club members took out one of the Larks to make a total of four boats on the water.

The Lark Class association secretary came down to cast his eye over our fleet prior to launching, and give us some tips on setting them up. Our aim is to have all six Larks set up the same so that it doesn't matter which one you use once you are familiar with the boat.

Tasks include adding a bridle for the main sheet, adding pole cradles so that poles can be stored on the boom (making it less likely they will end up overboard) and increasing the purchase on the mainsheets to make trimming more manageable for the helms.

On the water, sailors practised spinnaker hoisting, gybing and spinnaker dropping in perfect conditions. Jack tested out the righting lines fitted to one of the boats and these will be set on the other five to assist with recovery from capsizes.

Thanks to everyone who helped out today.
