Building on the history of the club on the website, we are in the process of creating a digital archive from photos, slides, etc. to which everyone is invited to contribute; all you have to do is to lend us your memorabilia for a few days and we will have them processed. The results will be available for everyone to see, and occasional forays into the archive willl appear here as well.

Weymouth Sailing Club has just hosted the Yacht Clubs of Weymouth, Why Boats Weymouth Yacht Regatta.
With over 50 boats competing out on the water, Weymouth’s Olympic waters even brought out the dolphins to watch.

The weather forecast for the WSC-hosted Squib South Coast Championship on 21/22 Sep had not been encouraging: strong easterlies for Saturday, going southerly with rain on Sunday. Even so, 19 Squibs were brave enough to register for the event – ten visitors and nine from the home fleet.

Thus it was that boats were prepared and polished, crews were forged in cauldrons of fire, plans were made and expectations were raised higher than they probably should have been.

What with the weather getting a bit autumnal (though the sail over was in ideal conditions), four nights moored at Alderney in winds up to 35 knots was not my idea of comfort on a boat, but it meant I could meet up with friends Georges and Catherine, who were on their way back from Guernsey, visit the museum and walk round some of the island with them, as well as attend the two-day Henry Euler Memorial Trust maritime history symposium on 'Alderney, The Channel Islands & Anglo-French Relations 1689 – 1918', with a number of eminent French and British speakers.

Weymouth Sailing Club’s Kathy Claydon has won the double-handed division in the recent Junior Offsore Group (JOG) cross-channel race from Cowes to Guernsey. The race started at 19:00 on Friday and she was paired with co-skipper Phil Kirk on her boat ‘Arcsine’.

The big tides made this the ideal weekend to clean the slipway, which was getting to be in need of it. A big thank-you to those members who gave up their time in this glorious weather to ensure that the rest of us can use the slip safely this autumn.

The Club is organising the annual Ringstead BBQ this Sunday (25th August). There will be a race there and back for Squibs while cruisers and motor boats are invited to escort the fleet. Everyone is welcome to join what is very much a family event. Club boats are welcome to join this event and can be booked out using the usual procedures.
We will anchor off the south end of Ringstead beach by “Burning Cliff”.

WSC's Al Doughty and Ian Cheke have just completed the exceptionally tough challenge of double-handing the Fastnet Race. Here is Al's account of the race:
