Cruising in French in the West Country
Our trip on ‘Crazy Goose’ was foreshortened a bit by the NE wind which prevented skipper Georges from leaving Saint-Vaast for over two weeks, but we managed to get to the Scillies, if not Ireland, and visit most of the usual ports on the way there and back in two weeks, before the weather began to show signs of deteriorating.
Squib Nationals - The Finishing Line
Dear Members,
Now that the intense excitement of the Squib Championship has passed on from the Club, I wanted to write to express my profound gratitude to you all for the magnificent help and support you have collectively given to making the event such an evident success. The Club has been showered with accolades from individual competitors, visiting clubs, the Squib class association, our sponsors, and local authorities for the excellent organisation of the whole and for the quite inspiring enthusiasm and radiant good-humour of our Club’s many volunteers.
Tales from the Slipway - A Bolt out of the Blue
Last autumn two wise men joined me on Dulcibella for a Thursday evening race. The wind was low teens and as we hardened up for the windward mark one of them turned to me and commented deprecatorily about my wrinkly mainsail. I was hurt but he was right. What to do?
Heading west
On a stroll round the headland at Falmouth yesterday, we found this newsworthy vessel undergoing a refit at the Pendennis yard. A far cry from the elegance of the fleet assembled for the Falmouth Classics week, which we found racing in the estuary as we arrived on Friday from Plymouth. Today we are off to the Scillies, hoping for some wind once we are clear of the Lizard.

June 6th 1929 - a Falcon sails to Poole!
I have been researching the sailing exploits of former Club officers and came across this interesting anniversary in Chapter 11 of the Club history:
'Another interesting bit of rivalry arose from an argument between Mr. Pitcher and Capt.. Mowlam at the annual dinner of 1928. Mr. Pitcher maintained that a Falcon was better than a Dolphin any day, and to prove his point undertook to sail one round to Parkstone the following season and enter it in a Dolphin race.
A spot of French sunshine - finally...
‘Aliya’went back in the water in the rain on the same day the French were coming, so it wasn’t till during the week that I was able to get ready to leave, but with even greater motivation having had to watch them leave on Sunday evening in ideal conditions.
