Yobs evening at Moatt Sails
Novembers Yobs meeting was held at Moatt sail on Portland. Steve Moatt invited the Yobs to join him at his sail loft to not only see how sails are made but to actually make one.
The Trophée Jules Verne
Wandering around the Musée de la Marine in Paris the other day, waiting to meet the head of conservation for my research project, I came across the Trophée Jules Verne, which is one that, even if you won it, you couldn’t take home – nor would you want to, given its enormous size (about 10ft.).

The first photo shows club boats rigging and probably about to take part in one of the first club races.
The crane and house in the foreground were still there when I was a child; the crane was for lifting the wooden bridge out so that boats could use the slipway where the main yard now is. The corner of the stone house is still the corner in the path between the yards.
Worlds Biggest Coffee Morning
Sugar and spice and all things nice, no we are not talking about Teresa May but the MacMillan Cancer Support coffee morning.
Dubbed the biggest coffee morning in the world, Weymouth Sailing Club members did their bit baking beautiful cakes for fellow members and the general public.
With the urn bubbling away, tea and coffee was served up and with tables straining under the weight of naughty but nice treats, donations were made and consumers had their fill.

Nev Hall finally ties a knot!
Nev Hall has finally tied the knot on Thursday 8th September when he married Rebecca Johnson at St Peter and St Paul's church, Weston in Gordano.
Nev, who is part owner of La Salmo with his brother Gavin, has been a life-long member of the WSC where he and Gavin were both Cadets and regular sailors . Gavin sailed with his father Michael, who was the original owner of La Salmo, while Nev crewed for Barry Payne.
September in Cherbourg
Captain’s log Friday morning 2 Sept - 0430 hrs off the Stone Pier for the first time in a few weeks in ‘Aliya’, sails set in a decent SW breeze which had filled in during the last Thursday evening race; Orion, ‘unerring herald of autumn,’ gleaming bright in partial cloud to the SE, right on the nose – France here we come..
Weymouth Yacht Regatta 2016
43 boats enjoyed a hotly contested regatta in 4 classes
Winner of the overall regatta and of IRC2 was the very quick J90, skippered by Richard Woof, closely pursued by a battle for 2/3/4th between the 3 Grand Surprises: Surprise, Bon Vacances, and Passion.
Winner of the overall IRC trophy went to the Contessa 32, Moodshadow 2, skippered by Mike Street, also winning IRC 4.
Level 2 and Sailing with Spinnakers new course dates 24th / 25th September

The RYA and the British Sailing Team would like to invite all members of Weymouth Sailing Club to The Sail for Gold Roadshow at WPNSA on Sunday 14th August 2016.
