Brest 2016

Submitted by man1041

Cabrach flew the Weymouth SC burgee at Brest 2016. Quatorze Juillet moored next to four Pen Duicks including number 1, for free, and watching the feu d'artifice was all part of the deal. The next day I found myself sat on a Wharram catamaran chatting to James Wharram himself. As you can see the wind was very light and the sun was hot, but wherever you looked there was another fascinating boat.

Super Sunday in Portsmouth for Sir Ben and Rima

Submitted by wsc.61

Mark and Rima Bugler started their summer cruise on Saskia with a trip to Portsmouth to watch the Americas Cup World Series as Rima had been given tickets to view from the race village on Saturday by her boys for her birthday. However what was supposed to be a simple spectator trip turned in something much more!

Arcsine in Volvo Round Ireland Race June 18th 2016

Planning started many months ago, first the Nav plan, absolutely essential when you are only 2 onboard. My Co-skipper on Arcsine was Phil Kirk(you may have seen him at the Club when he gave the talk re sailing a wayfarer around Britain in record time!)

Cherbourg - 2016

Well done to all the boats making it over the Cherbourg a fortnight ago and apologies we didn’t have our traditional get-together in the evening… though I think most crews ended up in Eldorado as normal! It was a great run and lovely to see so many local boats in Port Chantereyne.

As you may have heard, we had a fair bit of excitement with French customs as we made our way into Cherbourg on Saturday afternoon. For the record, it happened something like this..

RYA training course 6th/7th August

Submitted by MickRS200

The next RYA level 1 and 2 Dinghy sailing course is scheduled for the 6th/7th August.

This is fantastic for Dinghy sailors who want to earn a certificate or two, yacht crew who would like to know more about sailing or those of you that have just come back from holiday and fancy taking up sailing as a hobby.

The course is an absolute bargain at £125 for a whole weekend including certificates.

Mumbles Regatta - Weymouth Champions

Study in concentration

Great Result for our local dinghy sailors - Tim Bowden and Emma Stevenson - who shouted clearly enough at Mumbles this last weekend that they are serious competition. Overall winners in the regatta - but with an eye on the Osprey Nationals in a couple of months this would have been a pleasing result to lead the Ospreys home.

News from Normandy

To be off Utah beach on the 6th of June is something of a privilege, though the fog meant that we didn’t see anything till we arrived in the buoyed channel into Carentan, and then it was only egrets and the occasional cow!
