A recent trip to Cherbourg to stay with the Lacour family and continue my book research meant that I was able to travel back to Ouistreham with Thierry Lacour, a Brittany Ferries commandant, who invited me to make the passage back to England on the bridge of the 'Normandie' on Thursday.

Our first winter evening with the YOBs was spent at the Coastguard Head Quarters. 21 youngsters visited the Head Quarters and were treated to a very informative and educational tour of all the equipment used. Tom Wright was given the job of tour guide on behalf of the Coastguard and managed to answer all questions thrown at him.

Leaving Weymouth harbour on Saturday night, I noticed a group flash 5 on the horizon which I'd not seen before.Tracking down the approximate bearing next morning, I found this large yellow buoy, at N50 35' W02 20.5'. Weymouth Bay Chart

Last Friday Alex Bascombe, former WSC cadet and Squib sailor, passed out at HMS Raleigh after successfully completing the first part of his training to be come an aircraft technician specialising in helicopter maintenance.

Competitors in our Squib and Cruiser class races last Sunday may have noticed a number of windsurfers racing between Overcombe corner and Portland Harbour.  This event is known as the Portland Harbour Dash, which has been running for over 30 years.
