The new Rondar Squib comes to Weymouth

Submitted by sin269

Some of you may have noticed a smart new Squib without a cover on the moorings outside the club. It didn't need a cover because it has a new internal arrangement and self-draining cockpit, see left, which saved a lot of pumping over the last couple of weeks. The Squib was at the club for assessment prior to approval of the new design by the class association and the RYA.

Burns Night Supper now booking

Submitted by daddsie

Following on from last year's low-key inaugural event, we are pleased to announce that we will be hosting another Burns Night supper on Saturday 23rd January in the club.

Starting at 1900, everyone will be presented with a corsage before being led to the appropriately dressed table to the sound of bagpipes.

Starters will be a salmon tian, then, a tower of haggis, neeps and tatties with a whisky cream sauce and, for dessert, Scotch mist followed by coffee and mints.

Fear not - there will also be a vegetarian option available!

Submitted by steve

As the weather continues to howl and pour here in the Northern hemisphere, we might spare a thought for the crews who have braved the mixed bag of conditions in this year's Sydney-Hobart race, including that intrepid team of Frenchmen led by Gery Trenteseaux on 'Courrier du Leon'.

Boxing Day Race

Submitted by stephenhb

Weymouth Sailing Club’s traditional Boxing Day race went ahead this year despite some ferocious 40 knot gusts. Our new Commodore, Euan McNair, set a course that kept the nine brave competing boats out of the worst of the conditions, tucked safely in the relatively flat waters of Weymouth Bay.

Unfortunately the gusts proved a little too much for one boat, breaking its boom ‘like a cocktail stick’. We understand the musician on board succeeded in getting some interesting tunes out of the rigging beforehand though, including a high ‘C’ just before the snap.
